Before the first visit
Inflate the mattress ahead of time, inspect for problems, read the manual and keep bedding and any accessories together.
Measure the entire setup
Measure clear floor space rather than the room's wall-to-wall dimensions. Include door swing, furniture, a route to the bathroom and room for the sleeper to stand up. Compare the mattress's published inflated dimensions with that usable footprint; bedding and a bedside table need additional clearance.
Check ceiling or overhead clearance if you plan to use a very tall bed in a loft or under shelving. A nominal size label such as queen does not guarantee that every air mattress shares the same dimensions.
Match the pump to the location
For a built-in electric pump, confirm the voltage and outlet location before purchase. A built-in pump is convenient indoors but does not automatically work without mains power. For travel, compare compatible external pumps and valves and plan for a manual backup where appropriate.
Ask whether the mattress can be topped up without disturbing the sleeper, whether the cord can be routed away from feet, and how the bed will be deflated and stored afterward.
Check the seller's exact listing
Verify the selected model, size, height, included accessories, published weight guidance, warranty terms, return window and any restrictions for an inflated or used item.
