Start with usable floor space
Measure the clear floor area after opening doors and allowing a walking route. A mattress footprint is only one part of the space it occupies: leave room for bedding, a pump cord and getting in and out of bed.
Common size labels
Twin, full, queen and king are useful shopping labels, but inflatable dimensions vary by manufacturer and model. Compare the published inflated length and width rather than assuming conventional mattress dimensions.
Height changes access, not floor area
A raised air mattress can be easier for some guests to get onto, but it does not create extra sleeping width. Check ceiling clearance in tight spaces and whether a taller bed is practical for children or pets.

Check the precise model dimensions on the seller listing, measure your room, and confirm the packed dimensions if closet space is limited.
Size names are a starting point
Twin, full, queen and king labels are useful shopping filters, but inflatable products can differ from conventional mattress dimensions and from one another. Always use the selected model's published inflated length and width. A queen label alone cannot tell you whether the mattress will clear a wardrobe door or leave enough space to walk around it.
Measure the longest and widest points of the inflated bed, not just its sleeping surface. Include clearance for bedding, pump access and the person entering or leaving the bed.
A room-fit example
Suppose the clear floor area is 90 by 110 inches and the mattress listing says 60 by 80 inches. Centering it would leave 15 inches on each side and 15 inches at each end before accounting for doors, furniture or bedding. That may not provide a comfortable walking route. This is an illustrative calculation, not a universal clearance rule.

Fit sheets and sleepers
Check the manufacturer's sheet guidance, especially for raised models and unusual widths. Two sleepers may prefer more width than a nominal size suggests; verify the exact model's weight and occupancy instructions. A children's product should be evaluated against its own stated age and safety guidance, not treated as a smaller adult mattress.
